About the Tudor Black Bay Collection
For a watch this young, launched only in 2012, the Tudor Black Bay has created a legacy that is inimitable. It counts some of the greatest dive watches in the world as stablemates, elevating this genre and watchmaking as a whole to expanded pinnacles. A linchpin of the brand, Black Bay's journey began as a vintage-inspired dive watch and has emerged today as a large umbrella of diverse watches that dominate Tudor's exquisite line-up.
Origins And Design
Tudor have enjoyed a long and celebrated maritime legacy since their official launch. In 1947, they introduced the Oyster case, designed specifically to withstand the harsh conditions and pressures of underwater environments. This innovation was followed by the launch of Tudor's first dive watch, the renowned Oyster Prince Submariner, in 1954. The adoption of Tudor dive watches by the French Navy marked another significant milestone in the brand's illustrious nautical heritage. This rich history forms the foundation upon which the Black Bay collection is built.
From the outset, Tudor have held prominence for their timeless design sensibility. Therefore, Black Bay naturally boasts a strong aesthetical DNA that has endured changing times and trends. Elements such as the Snowflake hands, the large screw-down crown, geometrical hour markers—round dots and rectangles—and the inverted triangle at 12 o'clock have become iconic Black Bay signatures and are instantly recognisable. Reflecting the overarching theme of this collection, these details draw inspiration from the brand's vintage dive watches.
The Tudor Black Bay Collection
The Tudor Black Bay collection, comprising many functional tool watches, is fueled by the drive to achieve unparalleled reliability, robustness and quality. While watches like the Black Bay, Black Bay 54, Black Bay 58, and Black P01 are prominently vintage-inspired, the GMT, Chrono, S&G, and Ceramic lines channel the brand's commitment to design and mechanical ingenuity by incorporating unique materials and complications.

ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
The buzz surrounding Tudor's first METAS-certified movement, calibre MT5602-1U introduced in 2021, was quite expected. However, the attention garnered by its next evolution, MT5602-U released in 2023, was far more intriguing. MT5602-U was launched alongside the new Black Bay 41 model as the latest iteration of Tudor's Manufacture calibre MT5602. It being a Master Chronometer certified by METAS like its predecessor clearly emphasised the brand's commitment to enhancing the precision and reliability of their in-house movements. It incorporates all the distinctive features of a Tudor movement — the variable inertia oscillator, a silicon balance spring, and 70 hours of power reserve. Other notable bells and whistles of this self-winding movement include a frequency of 28,800 beats/hour or 4Hz and 25 jewels.
