About the Longines Diving Collection

History

One of the first brands to launch diving watches, Longines has a long history of crafting seafaring timepieces. The very first watch with diving DNA in it was launched in 1937 and was actually a chronograph with basic water-resistant capabilities. It wasn't until 1959 that Longines launched the first dedicated diving watch, the SuperCompressor. Since then, the Longines Diving collection has filled in the classical capabilities of a diving watch into the brand.

The HydroConquest

First released in 2007, the Longines HydroConquest series is a robust set of diving watches that features a ceramic uni-directional rotating bezel. Inspired by the early diving watches, the HydroConquest features a rather unique but prevalent hour hand that can be seen on many diving watches in the market. These hands are further complemented by a date window at the 3 o'clock marker and large Arabic numerals on the dial.

The Legend

Based on the legendary SuperCompressor from 1959, the Longines Legend Divers Watch was launched in 2007. Made to commemorate the legacy of diving watches the brand carries, the Legend features an inner rotating bezel similar to the SuperCompressor from 1959.

The Ultra-Chron

The Longines Ultra-Chron takes its cues from the Ultra-Chron Diver that the Swiss brand released in 1968. This model was powered by the Calibre 431 that introduced a dry lubrication patent as a solution to the fact that being more exposed to strain, high-beating movements require more durable parts and better lubricants to deal with the added friction.

ABOUT THE MOVEMENT

The calibre L888, based on the ETA A31.L11, is a high-performance automatic movement, offering substantial autonomy of 72 hours. It drives the hours, minutes, seconds, and date functions while operating at a frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour (3.5Hz). It is equipped with 21 jewels, reducing friction and wear on the movement's critical components, thus enhancing durability and longevity. The calibre L888 is prominently used in notable Longines models such as the Longines Legend Diver, Conquest, and more. It has been modified into various versions for use in other Longines timepieces, adapting to the specific needs and characteristics of each model. Some iterations of the L888 movement are also COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) certified.
