The Ikepod POD collection serves as a tribute to the early days of the brand, dating back to when they initially launched in 1994. At that time, the first watches created were under the name “POD” before the brand transitioned to Ikepod. Despite this change, the rights to the name “POD” were retained, and now, to honour their origins, Ikepod have reintroduced the POD collection. This ultra-limited series features just fifty pieces, marking a rare opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to own a watch that connects to the brand's past. The release is a symbolic gesture, paying homage to the designs and concepts that initially shaped Ikepod’s legacy.

Design And Iterations

The POD collection features two main iterations: a minimalist two-hand variant and a chronograph version. The two-hand model offers a clean and straightforward approach to timekeeping, in keeping with the simplicity of the original POD watches. On the other hand, the chronograph variant is more intricate, featuring three horizontally stacked sub-dials—a 30-minute counter at nine o'clock, running seconds dial at six o'clock, and a 24-hour indicator at three o'clock. A discreet date window is also positioned between the four and five o’clock marks. This design captures the balance between function and form, staying true to Ikepod's ethos of merging art and horology.

While the aesthetic of the POD collection closely mirrors the original designs, there is a key difference in the movement. Unlike the mechanical movements of the original POD watches, these new iterations are equipped with Japanese Miyota quartz movements. This choice was made to enhance accessibility, making these timepieces more affordable while still retaining their design heritage. Though a shift from the Swiss-made movements of the past, the use of quartz ensures precision and reliability without compromising on the brand’s design principles.
