About the Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Collection
Embark on a journey through Latin and Cuban history with Cuervo y Sobrinos' exquisite Historiador collection — a testament to elegance, luxury, and the brand's rich heritage. The collection echoes the vibrancy of Latin culture, where each timepiece encapsulates the essence of a bygone era while embracing the modern world with sophistication.
History
In 1965, the Cuervo family's exodus from Cuba cast a shadow over the brand, leading to the closure of their storied boutique — a hiatus that endured for three decades until their revival in 1997. A significant moment arose in 2009 with the reopening of the Havana boutique, a restoration effort spearheaded by Dr Eusebio Leal Spengler, Havana's esteemed historian. Recognising Dr Leal's pivotal role in Havana's architectural renaissance and his contributions to the brand, the brand bestowed upon its classical collection of watches the revered title of Historiador.
At the heart of the Historiador collection lies a fusion of timeless design and intricate craftsmanship. With supple round dials and distinctive horn-like lugs, each timepiece exudes a sense of refined elegance, often affixed with a luxurious leather strap. Adorning the dial at the 12 o'clock mark is the brand's emblematic logo. Diverse functionalities grace the Historiador watches, ranging from practical date windows to sophisticated GMT complications. Additionally, this collection boasts an array of limited-edition timepieces.
Notable Iterations
Among the iconic iterations within the Historiador collection, the Asturias stands out—a tribute to the founder's birthplace in the northwestern region of Spain. With its sleek silhouette and smoked dial, the Asturias epitomises understated sophistication, perfect for everyday wear. Other notable variants include the Asturias Pequeños Segundos and Flameante, featuring a running seconds counter and a captivating flaming dial motif, respectively. The guilloche-dialled Tradición exudes classic charm, while the Hemingway Iconico and GMT “The Fisherman” pay homage to the brand's enduring patron, Ernest Hemingway. Not to be overlooked is the Nino Farina II, a tri-compax chronograph named after the champion of the Formula One World in 1950.
