About the Corum Bubble Collection
The Corum Bubble was the brainchild of Severin Wunderman, who drew inspiration from an experimental deep-sea dive watch of the 1960s. This particular dive watch had a massive domed crystal to withstand the intense pressures of the ocean’s depths, and this concept sparked the idea for the Bubble. When Corum released the Bubble, it was instantly recognised as one of the boldest timepieces of its era. The watch’s oversized case, originally 44mm in diameter, was complemented by an even larger domed sapphire crystal, towering over the dial. This unique design created a distortion effect that magnified the dial beneath it, making the Bubble a distinctive piece.
Design And Iterations
The Bubble’s dials are a canvas for creativity. Over the years, they have featured a wide range of quirky and striking designs, from giant skulls to images of space, animated characters, and even representations of the Earth. This creativity, paired with the exaggerated domed crystal, made the Bubble a collector’s favourite and an icon in luxury watch design. The uniqueness of the timepiece is not something one would hide under their sleeve but proudly display as a statement piece. Corum have produced numerous limited-edition versions of the Bubble, with some limited to just 88 pieces, adding an exclusive dimension to the collection.
The limited-edition models feature bold and eclectic themes, from the Bubble Night Flyer with its luminous dial to the Bubble Magical series, where colourful abstract designs dominate the face. In particular, the Bubble 47 Flying Tourbillon stands out as a technical marvel. This iteration incorporated a flying tourbillon complication, showcasing Corum’s mastery of both artistic design and technical innovation. The limited production runs and use of high-end complications in some of these models add to their allure, making them highly collectable.
