About the Breitling Superocean Collection
The Breitling Superocean collection debuted in 1957, marking Breitling's venture into the world of diving watches for men and women. This move occurred when diving was gaining popularity as a sport and a profession. The original Superocean models were designed to meet the rigorous demands of professional divers. Over the decades, the Superocean has evolved, incorporating technological advancements and design changes, yet it has always stayed true to its roots as a reliable and stylish diver’s watch.
Evolutionary Design
The design of the Breitling Superocean collection has undergone significant transformations since its inception. The contemporary Superocean models reflect Georges Kern’s “Modern Retro” approach, putting together historical elements with modern aesthetics and functionality. The collection includes many fun, boldly-sized watches for women as well. Inspired by the legacy of the 1960s Slow Motion chronograph, the new Superocean watches feature distinctive design elements such as the unique minute hand with a square insert, block-like hour markers, and a wide inner rehaut. These elements create a bold and recognisable look for diving enthusiasts and style-conscious individuals. These Breitling watches come in a variety of sizes and colours for every taste and preference.
Innovative Features
The original Superocean was designed for deep-sea diving with a rotating bezel to track time and water resistance up to 200 metres. It had large, glowing hour markers and hands for easy reading underwater. Modern Superocean models are designed with exceptional water resistance, capable of withstanding depths of up to 500 metres. The watches are equipped with high-quality materials such as scratch-resistant ceramic bezels and Super-LumiNova coating on the hands and markers, ensuring durability and legibility under water. The calibre 17 movement, based on the Sellita SW200, provides reliable and precise timekeeping, certified by COSC as a chronometer. Additionally, the Superocean watches include practical elements like a dive extension piece in the clasp, making them convenient for use over wetsuit gloves.

ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Powering the numerous Breitling automatic timepieces is the calibre B17, derived from the ETA 2824-2 but enhanced with a quick-set date function. Renowned for its robustness, it stands as one of Breitling's most durable mechanical movements, utilised in Superocean, Avenger, Colt, and more collections. It operates at a rapid rate of 28,800 beats per hour to offer swift and precise timekeeping and has bi-directional winding for efficient energy replenishment. This movement is jewelled with 26 bearings and boasts a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. Its exceptional accuracy has earned it the distinction of being tested and certified as a Chronometer, affirming its reliability and precision.
