In 2019, Jacob & Co. partnered with Bugatti to introduce the Chiron Tourbillon, a watch inspired by Bugatti's famous hypercar. This collaboration brought together Jacob & Co.'s expertise in high-end watchmaking and Bugatti's reputation for creating exceptional automobiles, capturing the essence of Bugatti's engineering marvels within a timepiece.
Design Ingenuity Inspired By Hypercar Engineering
The design of the Jacob & Co. Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon is a striking example of how a timepiece can embody the essence of a high-performance hypercar. The watch features a bold and robust black titanium case, with sapphire crystal on the front and back, offering a full view of its intricate inner workings. The centrepiece of the design is a miniature, fully functional W16 engine, meticulously crafted with moving pistons and rotating turbochargers that are activated by pressing a side actuator. This engine, housed within a solid synthetic sapphire block, dominates the visual appeal, transforming the watch into a mesmerising mechanical marvel.
Range Iterations
Jacob & Co. extends this line with exceptional variations. The Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon Baguette elevates the series by integrating the brand’s famed gem-setting craftsmanship. This variant is adorned with baguette-cut diamonds and precious stones, offering a striking combination of haute horlogerie and luxury jewellery. Meanwhile, the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon Pave, features round-cut diamonds, adding a different yet equally lavish aesthetic. On the cutting-edge side, the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon Sapphire Crystal showcases the technical prowess of Jacob & Co. It is carved from a single block of sapphire crystal, available in various hues created using rare earth powders. This transparent case magnifies the intricate W16 engine mechanism, pushing the limits of both aesthetics and engineering. Crafting such a case takes months, as any flaw during production can result in discarding the entire crystal block, underscoring the complexity and rarity of these timepieces.
