The Ikepod Megapod collection represents a significant step in the brand’s evolution, combining modern design with the signature Ikepod aesthetic that first captivated watch enthusiasts in the late 90s. Reviving the iconic Megapod watch designed by Marc Newson, the collection was launched in 2020 following the success of the Duopod and Chronopod campaigns. The collection pays homage to Ikepod’s minimalist heritage, with clean lines and an unembellished, functional design that highlights its focus on precision and craftsmanship.
Design And Iterations
The Megapod is distinguished by its UFO-shaped 46mm case, which, despite its size, sits comfortably on the wrist due to its ergonomic design. The case, made from 316L stainless steel, offers a polished and smooth finish that underscores Ikepod’s minimalist philosophy. While the case is 46mm in diameter, it wears closer to 43mm, making it versatile and comfortable for everyday wear. With a water resistance of 50 metres, it is as practical as it is stylish, suitable for daily use while maintaining a sleek appearance. The collection features three distinct groups, M000, M100, and M200, each with its own stylistic variations. The M000 is perhaps the closest in spirit to the original Megapode models, featuring a clean, pared-down dial with hour, minute, and second hash marks on the bevelled outer ring.
The M000 line includes three regular models and a Kickstarter-exclusive edition, offering collectors a variety of options to suit their tastes. The M001 Dieter, for instance, stands out with a deep blue sunray dial, silver and white hands, and a contrasting orange second hand, adding a touch of vibrancy to its minimalist look. Ikepod have also embraced artistic collaborations within the Megapod collection, as seen in the M006 Zaha model, a special edition that features a unique brick-red satin dial. With its contrasting white hands, this model stands out for its bold yet understated design. The timepieces in the collection is powered by the trusted Miyota 9039 automatic movement, offering a power reserve of 42 hours.
