CIGA Design's Series J collection, launched in 2020, reflects the brand's dedication to minimalist design and Zen-inspired aesthetics. The collection stands out for its focus on simplicity and balance, offering timepieces that are both visually appealing and philosophically grounded. The packaging of the watch under this collection also became a recipient of the 2020 Red Dot Award for Visual Communication because of its minimalism.
Crowdfunding Success And Vision
The launch of the Series J was supported by a successful crowdfunding campaign, demonstrating strong interest in CIGA Design's unique approach to watchmaking. The campaign not only provided the necessary funding for production but also helped the brand reach a broader international audience. Through this collection, CIGA Design continue to offer timepieces that resonate with those who value minimalist design, philosophical depth, and cutting-edge technology.
Design Philosophy And Key Features
The Series J collection is deeply influenced by Zen philosophy, which is evident in the watch's clean, symmetrical design. The dial of the Series J is particularly noteworthy, featuring fine markers instead of numerals, contributing to a simplistic and tranquil aesthetic. The dial's layout carefully highlights delicate and intricate craftsmanship and features three layers inspired by the three Zen realms — emptiness, transparency, and reality. One of the unique aspects of the Series J is the visibility of the movement from the centre of the dial whilst being covered by 120 lines placed 0.2mm apart. Another one is the hands unconventionally extended to measure the diameter in an X-shape, which appears to be hovering over the dial.
The dial offers a glimpse of the inner workings without overwhelming the overall design. The watches in the Series J collection are powered by the Citizen Miyota 8N24 calibre, a no-date movement which drives the three-central display. This movement aligns with the collection's emphasis on minimalist aesthetics.
