The Birth Of Bremont: A Legacy Forged In The Skies
The story of Bremont begins not in a watchmaking studio, but in the skies above France, where brothers Nick and Giles English, both passionate aviators, encountered a life-changing event in 1995. While practising for an air display in a 1942 Harvard aircraft, tragedy struck when their plane crashed, resulting in the death of their father, Euan, and leaving Nick with broken bones. However, instead of succumbing to despair, the brothers used this traumatic experience as the catalyst for a new path, one that would merge their love for aviation, engineering, and mechanical precision. Their journey into the world of horology was not born from a traditional watchmaking background but from a shared passion for the mechanical arts that their father instilled in them.
Their interest in timepieces was rooted in a childhood spent restoring clocks and watches with Euan, an ex-RAF pilot and aeronautical engineer. This upbringing shaped their understanding of engineering and the value of craftsmanship. After the accident, Nick and Giles resolved to pursue their lifelong interest in mechanical devices, creating watches that embodied the same spirit of engineering precision and resilience that had defined their lives. Inspired by the ruggedness and reliability of vintage aircraft and their father’s passion for horology, they founded Bremont in 2002. From the very beginning, Bremont have been driven by a singular mission to create beautifully crafted, durable timepieces that not only serve as instruments of timekeeping but as lasting symbols of British craftsmanship. Combining modern manufacturing techniques with the tradition of Swiss watchmaking, Bremont were determined to establish a brand that would deliver precision, performance, and elegance. The brand’s success is built upon its strong foundation in British engineering, exemplified in their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, 'The Wing', which is the first industrial watchmaking facility in Britain for generations. This facility allows Bremont to produce timepieces in the UK with a level of craftsmanship that remains a rarity in modern horology
