New Top Time And A New Ambassador For Breitling: Austin Butler, The Face Of Top Time B31
Arnold & Son's catalogue is the perfect roll call of outstanding haute horlogerie watches. Their Time Pyramid model, introduced in 2013, is a suitable illustration of the aforesaid. It's a collection where historical watchmaking joins the art of skeletonisation. Inspired by the English clocks of the 1830s and John Arnold's creations, the Time Pyramid spellbinds with its vertically aligned, pyramid-shaped movement whose unencumbered view is visible through a skeletonised front. As a result, the movement is the ultimate attraction of a Time Pyramid watch, leading the way both aesthetically and mechanically.
The Trilateral Movement - An Unparalleled Watchmaking And Design Feat
Repudiating the conventional arrangement of movement components into a circle, Arnold & Son have distinctively assembled the organs from top to bottom. The gear train is at the centre with two mainspring barrels at the bottom of the case, and the escapement and balance wheel are located at 12, creating a perfectly symmetrical triangular architecture. This configuration places the screw crown at six instead of the traditional three o'clock position due to the barrels being at the foot of the case. The two barrels provide a staggering 90 hours of power reserve, marked by two indicators on each side of the skeletonised dial via graduated dots in crescent-shaped counters. The main timekeeping functions are located above the gear train, at the centre. All Arnold & Son Time Pyramid watches are equipped with manual-wound movements. A few iterations of the watch also came with the tourbillon escapement.
Features
Transparency ruled the roost in early models of the Time Pyramid collection with completely skeletonised front and back. However, recent Arnold & Son watches from this collection have been graced with a beautiful aventurine backdrop and white opal dials. The current Time Pyramid line-up includes watches in precious metals such as red gold and platinum.
